Recently, several states have eliminated a woman’s right to control her own body even for victims of rape and incest. These laws overstep government’s role and hurt poor women, victims of sexual assault, and young women disproportionately. All women should have full rights to control their own body; it is for this reason the Hyde Amendment should be repealed. It is a dangerous door to open to allow the government to dictate reproductive rights for anyone. Rather than punishing women and doctors, we should invest to help women have more control over their body to begin with. Jennifer supports significantly expanding funding for all women’s health care services, including contraception and high quality pre- and post-natal care.
“The emphasis must be not on the right to abortion but on the right to privacy and reproductive control.”
— Ruth Bader Ginsburg
