We are a nation of immigrants, and we should take pride in that heritage and diversity. Most Americans have grandparents who were like the 1.8 million Dreamers today; they came for a better life or were brought here by their parents in hope for a bright future. We should act quickly to give legal status to all DACA eligible young people because America is the only home they know. Furthermore, any immigrant who honorably serves our country in our military should be awarded citizenship. We must then pass comprehensive immigration reform and provide rigorous humanitarian standards at our borders.
Immigrants are hard-working people who love America. Let’s live up to our promise of being the Land of Opportunity and Freedom.
“When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt.”
— Leviticus 19:33-34
