Nowhere on Earth does healthcare cost more per capita than in the United States. The current system is unsustainable. It’s time we simplify the process to allow for single-payer healthcare that guarantees health care for every American without exception. We have already proven that the Medicare system works. Guaranteeing health care as a human right is simply the right thing to do.
A single-payer system would also save American businesses billions of dollars by eliminating the need to fund and administer health care programs to employees. These funds could be used by companies to invest in innovation, create more jobs, and pay their fair share of taxes. This also helps American companies compete with foreign companies where there is already a single-payer system.
Jennifer has seen the negative effects of our current healthcare system up close. Her mother was a nurse. After spending much of her life caring for patients, she could not afford her own medicine or treatments when she got sick with cancer. She spent her final years worrying about how to pay bills. Millions of Americans have that same experience, and that is just wrong. It’s time we have a healthcare system that works for everyone.
“Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health is the most shocking and inhumane.”
— Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
